Just had 9 days on the Island of Islay off the west coast of Scotland. I stayed with some friends who have a working croft and a craft shop, Tormisdale Croft Crafts. We were cutting fire wood and I came across a nice piece of drift wood that turned out to be a piece of elm. It had obviously been cut as a disk and ended up in the sea for some time. I had taken some tools and a shave horse with me so the elm ended up as  a very nice stool for the craft shop.

Tormisdale Croft Crafts were winners of the FX Tourism Award, Best Shopping and Crafts, in 2000. All the goods in the shop are hand made on the croft. Ann hand spins wool and knits it up into various jumpers and cardigans etc. The shop also sells hand made walking sticks/crooks and various items made from local staghorn.
