The charcoal burning season is with us again and I have had 2 reasonable burns so far, getting 129 kilos of usable charcoal out of the first one and probably the same out of the second. The wood is FSC bought in from Raby Estates and is a mix of Ash, Sycamore and Beech. I use a hydraulic log splitter to prepare the wood after it has been crosscut and it goes into the kiln as firewood sized pieces and produces nice lumps of charcoal.
